Interior Mosscape
‘Mosscape’ a topographic landscape woven through a large open plan office is the recent recipient of the 2024 Architectural Masterprize for product design. Located in the Flatiron district of Manhattan, it was conceived as an organic and sculptural insertion of nature meandering through an interior office space, helping to simultaneously define and lend warmth to the space. The moss ‘tables’ vary in scale, and appear to subtly ‘float’ above the floor surface, and their forms enhanced with a series of multi-stemmed grey birches, which further help to delineate space and draw one’s focus to the various seating and more intimate lounge areas dotted throughout. The mosaic of deep greens that compose the moss tables create a dark canvas which serves to highlight the white of the birch trunks in high relief. The moss, harvested from New England has been dried and preserved, and requires no watering, nor ongoing maintenance.
